They could not understand why they were worried about them who had ruined them two. Getting no answer from own mind they wanted to know the reason from sage Medhas. Learning everything from the sage, King Surath started contemplation of Mahamaya at riverside and afterwards worshipped Mahamaya in spring in the month of Chaitra to regain his lost kingdom. Since then this puja is celebrated as Basanti Puja. On the other hand, it is known from Ramayan an Indian epic composed by Krittibash that with a view to rescuing abducted Sita from the grip of Ravan, Ramchandra invoked Goddess Durga in autumn.

Though autumn was then an odd time for Durga Puja, since then autumnal Durga Puja has become the main festival of Bengalee Hindus across the world. Though confined to a few aristocratic families in West Bengal which is observed as a mark of tradition, Basanti Puja is celebrated at some places of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Udaigiri Orissa and Assam. In Bangladesh, this puja is held at Bazar Kali Temple in Sherpur, but in other places of Bangldeash this puja is rarely held.

Prior to it idols were sent to Atlanta, the USA from the same place but at present due to pandemic of coronavirus, celebration of Basanti Puja abroad also in Bangladesh and India is uncertain. Autumnal Durg Puja was performed first by Ramchandra. At that time, Durga Puja was celebrated in spring as initiated by King Surath many years ago.
