You are not interested too much in story so you can dive directly into X3 Albion Prelude and play that as its the most balanced version, but also the most unforgivable. If you want there are Mods that port plots from TC to AP for additional plot mission and many other mods you can get into once you have confidence in the games main mechanics. MFG Ketraar. I came into the series with X2. I loved it. Then once the first couple of patches came out, I entered X3:Reunion.
What X2? X3:R was the new love of my life. Not so much a story driven plot, but many great plots anyway. I tried to go back to the original X games, but could just never get into them. I never could get back into X2 or X3R either. If you have any intention of playing any of the game prior to X3TC, start with them. The first TC plot is great for introducing features of the game at a speed where everything isn't overwhelming.
Things you learn in TC apply to AP as well. The Terran Start of TC more or less serves as an introduction to game mechanism. In the long run, AP is more polished and satisfactory. IMO it's the best space game ever exists. Some may say a modded AP is even better. I live in my Vidar. Sep 13, I like Terran Conflict. Just this morning I have been attacked by nine or ten pirates in formations, very nice combat for fighters, even though I am a capital ship fan.
Sep 13, I just recently bought the bundle myself and here is what I did. I started with the oldest game and played it enough to 'get a feel for it' without ever having looked at any of the other games in ANY way. I then 'tasted' the next oldest. Then the next. Until finally after a couple weeks or so, and perhaps an average of 5 hours play on each game but perhaps 10 or 15 on X2, the only one of the older ones that I played for any appreciable amount I had arrived at X3 AP.
I have since then been playing X3 AP. I found this to be a good pattern because, now I know in a very general sense what the whole series is about, and what each game feels like. Based on that, I know that, the one I prefer to play at this point is the most up to date one. The graphics are definitely the best, and several of the game mechanics that I found honestly a bit annoying in earlier versiosn are 'fixed' in AP.
Indeed, I cannot spot anything that is in AP that I don't like compared to the older ones, and nothing that I saw in the older ones that I can say is lacking in AP. It seems that in this case Egosoft has done a good job of continuously 'improving' their game. Not to say the older ones are not worth playing; I expect I will eventually go back and play all or most of them in turn. ADDIT: couple of other points: 1. You really should download and install that asap.
It adds a lot to those two games. As a previous posted said, TC is an earlier timeline and the stories I gather are not 'interdependent' meaning playing the AP sandbox and storyline will not 'spoil" the TC sandbox and storyline.
It is a bit more intricate and perhaps more difficult to master, but I feel it is superior by providing the player with better options. There was an even larger step up between R and the previous games. Then you had space stations and planets to land on, and proper hyperspace where you could jump to any system within range. Why do we have to put up with jump gates in our games? Contraves wrote: You can start with just about any of them.
I remember this. I played it a bit as sandbox before continuing the story. I set up a few factories in President's End or whatever sector it was that gets wiped out. Continued with the story and when all my stuff got blown up, I never touched the game again 'cause it pissed me off so much. But I liked X3 and TC. Haven't fully finished the story line in X3 I'm pretty far along, but keep getting sidetracked. In TC, I started as Terran and finished that storyline, but haven't completed the others Operation final fury or something.
Managed to build up a nice little fleet, but I'm too much of a hoarder to sell them, and I don't fly them. But I can't wait for the new one! Why wouldn't you just put them and a few wings together and put them on a patrol of a sector with some of your factories? TC has the best control scheme especially if you aren't using a joystick , and as others mentioned, is generally more refined.
Joe wrote: X3 TC do that one. Don't pick the custom game option. It's intended for total conversion mods that use custom universes and has all plots and related objects disabled i. Nazgutek wrote: Go with Terran Conflict, it's the most refined X game.
What is this bonus pack that you speak of on Egosoft's site? One great thing about Terran Conflict is they finally made having a joystick pretty much optional given one of the control schemes, whereas IMHO it really wasn't before.
Also of course the graphics are much improved, yadda yadda. All Reviews:. Popular user-defined tags for this product:. Is this DLC relevant to you? Sign In or Open in Steam. Languages :. English and 1 more. View Steam Achievements Includes 65 Steam Achievements. Publisher: Egosoft.
