It started with an idea to boost sales on the web store, for merch. And then there was some global catastrophe stuff, like the Fukushima reactor happened, so we did one for charity for that, for the Red Cross. And then we did another one for tornadoes in Kansas that destroyed a town. It kept going like that, just finding reasons to do it.
We did a tour shortly after that and we wrote a song for one fan every single day who bought a ticket for the show. We looked through the ticket list, randomly picked a name and then wrote a song for them and brought them up on stage during the show. We recorded them in our studio at home, but they never came out. We may still release those at some point. But that may not happen. I actually do have one hundred dollar patron. If she does, then next August I will write a song for her.
How did you get the [Wandering Wolf] podcast rolling or how did you keep it rolling so long? I started it, I guess in I just felt like I needed an outlet of something external to myself.
Started doing it then, and just kept rolling. I did a hundred episodes one hundred weeks in a row, so just shy of two years. I have done a few more recently. Has that come back re-touring this album? Or is it a different kind of approach? I was a mess ten years ago. I was in a dark place. Touring on it, I mean. Now my body is monitored by doctors, I keep myself in a level place.
I keep myself okay. Looking back on this older material for me now is fine. It feels like going back to a previous time and not living in it. Serengeti is still doing his soundcheck. Yoni gets up to close the door again. I think one of the biggest surprises for me in reading up on WHY? When you were recording that material, did you have a feeling that it was two distinct albums? At first we thought that it was one album. I had just been very prolific I guess, the year before that, in writing.
There were only like two songs, maybe, that felt like they could go between the two albums. Other than that, everything pretty much naturally teased out.
The way I put those together came later. So probably not. Yeah and you know I finished Eskimo Snow first. And that was supposed to come out first. You have anything else or whatever? So, this is probably my th time seeing Why? Every other time I saw them was back in Minneapolis, but the Sinclair here in Boston was a really venue.
The place was packed for the general audience, and the energy was awesome. For a throwback band, and going with all people who had never heard of them by myself, we all had a blast and I think I made fans out my friends too. If you ever get a chance to see them, I highly recommend going! Massive amount of songs to chose from there is a sound for all tastes here enjoy the WHY?.
Show here the Crescent Ballroom was filled to crushing capacity. I enjoyed the light show but would have had a more controlled effect the deep blues could pop some white in on the band for some really intense coloring.
Many local bands here to see just what the WHY? Great show! Gabby's World opened for WHY? Energy was great in a small venue. Played new songs as well as a couple from earlier albums for the older fans. Would highly recommend seeing this show, and it's on my list to see again. Great visuals, great sound, great energy. The time flew by. I loved the mix of old and new songs. The closing of playing two acoustic songs with the whole band was excellent.
Really genuine. Never a disappointment!!!! Hurry back soon! Actually happy it moved to a smaller venue for a more intimate show. Incredible band. These are truly unique and talented musicians who care not only about their art, but their fans, as well.
So thankful to have seen them on their Alopecia 10 year anniversary tour. Great concert. See all photos See all posters According to a press release, the album tells the story of star-crossed lovers Maddy and Davy:.
After Davy got Maddy pregnant, he proposed. The ceremony was a lovely, traditional affair. But alas, soon their music went out of vogue, and the tastemakers left them for dead.
No blog would touch them with a ten-word post, but Davy never gave up. Music was the only life he knew, the only way he could pay the bills and process the pain.
