Can you go skiing while pregnant

Just remember to evaluate your skills! Beware the Altitude High altitude can effect pregnant women a lot more than it does non-pregnant people. Avoid Busy Runs If you are a skillful experienced skier you may not fear falling as much as new skier would. However, people crashing into you full force is a very real risk when skiing in busy areas so we advise you pick quiet areas to ski at non-busy times to minimise the risk of collision.

I skied during each of my pregnancies, from roughly three months to six months pregnant. The limiting factor for me was that at about 6 months, I no longer had ski clothing that fit. Then I switched from skiing to snowshoeing, wearing lots of fleece layers — all from my husband!

My doctor was okay with me skiing and asked me to stick to easy, comfortable terrain and away from crazy crowds. It was my first pregnancy, a surprise at that, and I had no idea what to expect of motherhood. I felt a bit like I was on death row, only happier, in that every meal was my last meal, every adventure was my last adventure, every uninterrupted conversation was my last chance to hold onto a thread of dialogue until it was resolved.

I skied every week until I was 34 weeks pregnant. I know people who skied right up until they went into labor, women who make a living on their skis — but I was happy to call it around then. I have skied during all 4 of my pregnancies. Getting out and enjoying a day on the hill is great even when pregnant. Even better, it sets you up with the attitude that you can still get out and have adventures once you have kids! All rights reserved. I also skied during my pregnancy. I had to stop around 24 weeks as I was having a hard time staying hydrated. Thanks so much! I XC skied until 39 weeks…. Just happy to be out there! I remember right before our 2nd son was born, we spent a flying kites with our then 2 year-old. It was windy and cold, but we had so much fun. Good to be out there! I also skied, and taught skiing during my pregnancy.

Plus, my baby loved it, she was still while I was skiing as she liked the rocking movement but kicked like mad when I stopped or while waiting in the lift line! Plus we love to tell her that she was skiing before she was born! But I made sure that I skied gentler terrain, only skied when it was less busy and stayed in as the hill got busier in the afternoons. I skied until I was about 36 weeks!

Like many commenters I stick to uncrowded areas. Listen to your body, stay well within your skill level. Enjoy the slopes! I am 23 weeks pregnant and just had a wonderful day on the slopes yesterday. I had people telling me I was crazy, but I felt confident and in control. I love to snowboard and being out there was well worth it.

As soon as the slopes started getting really crowded I stopped and watched people and that was just as fun. Thank you for making me feel better about my decision. I am an experienced snowboarder and besides getting tired quicker, I found myself maintaining my skills with being present. Im 15 weeks pregnant and just come back from a week skiing. My main issue was the stopping to pee often which is a real pain. My hubby was super supportive and encouraged me. I took one shorter day and one day off normally we ski everyday first lift till last lift but I just listened to my body, avoided crowds where possible and kept my speed down.

I skiied at Sun Peaks in Canada at Christmas at 4 weeks and had a miscarriage at 6. Any opinions ladies? I am not a medical professional. It is quite common to miscarriage though, 6 weeks is still very early and I hope you are able to give yourself some grace and release yourself of any guilt.

I was advised to not even tell anyone about my pregnancy until 20 weeks as the chances were still so high of miscarriage. But, For the sake of your question, was there anything that happened during your trip that made you worry in the moment?

Are you an avid skier? In my understanding, baby is sooo cushioned in there it would take quite a dramatic event esp at that size. Again, not a medical professional.

Personally, I found skiing a very routine and familiar activity to me to be excellent for my mental and physical health during that time. I am so sorry. Sometimes there are no explanations. Jen, I am so so sorry to hear about your loss. After having several miscarriages yourself, I know how hard it can be. Thanks for posting these messages about all of your personal experiences skiing.

I feel more reassured with the stories shared. It seems like such a waste to not ski in these amazing mountains! I feel a lot better now about simply taking it easy on the slopes and enjoying some freak pow pow.

I am 7 weeks super early and already had a trip planned to utah in two weeks. I was freaking out about it but after reading this I feel so much better. Hi Jen, so sorry about the miscarriage.

Virtually all 1st trimester miscarriages are chromosomal abnormalities or hormonal imbalance. Great post, thanks for the confidence! I am going to do some very light skiing at 14 weeks with my husband and toddler. Just some bunny slopes and super easy runs. This is my 2nd pregnancy and my baby bump was basically immediate….
